Phoenixville Royalty gets engaged

Phoenixville Royalty gets engaged! Well, not really. But to my Great Aunt, it would be much more exciting.

Ok, let me explain. My Great Aunt was like my grandmother. My grandmother died when I was 3, and this was her sister. I spent countless days with her, and those days would go into overnight trips . She had her routine in the morning, and her life was regimented as most peoples are at that age. And one of her daily rituals every morning, no matter the weather was to  Stop at Mass at St. Ann’s Church followed by a (long) pit stop at a little coffee shop/Newspaper Shop in the heart of Phoenixville’s Downtown, called Seacrist’s. Seacrist’s was charming in a way we wouldn’t recognize now, with our hipster baristas, and our mobile obsessions with very little eye contact. It could have doubled for a set on It’s a Wonderful Life”. It’s was a hang out, where people talked, and gossiped about the community,  and even smoked. If I remember correctly, the place had a haze from all the smoke, and when the morning light streamed through the windows it gave the place such a magical quality that’s even the most staunch anti-smoking activist couldn’t dismiss it’s visual allure.

Seacrist’s is long gone now, like most of the other places like this. But the vivid visceral memories of that place is burned inside of me, and I have such a lasting nostalgic fondness for this place and for the time I  got to spend with my aunt Rita at this place.

So To make a long story short. I’m photographing the owner’s Grand Daughter’s Wedding. So my Aunt Rita would be so proud.  Maybe more then working a “real” royal wedding.

So by no means is this trip down memory Lane to take a away from Kara and Vince’s exciting news and beautiful faces. It’s more of a tribute to the powerful memories of my childhood from this local business, and now I want to give them powerful visual memories back.

Daniel — I knew your Aunt Rita — she and my mother were friendly and I also went to St. Ann’s.

I worked “the counter” at Seacrist’s my junior and senior years in P’ville. Oh the stories…..the memories….what special images I can recall from those weekends and after school hours there!

Your photography is amazing — I appreciate you sharing with us all from P’Ville who remember those “good ole’ days” when our little town was just that — our little town!!

Thank you!
