I want to be a Finger Lakes Wedding Photographer

Posted on October 9, 2014      by Daniel Fullam

I was just in the Finger Lakes Region of New York recently for my wife’s birthday (kid free) and we visited  many of their charming wineries. I fell in love with the place. It has so much simplicity And charm that it feels like it’s yanked right out of Frank Capra Movie. Well actually, IT IS. It’s a Wonderful Life, was based on the town Seneca Fall. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, so of course it made the experience more Charming. If you haven’t seen the movie, watch it sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years Eve.

Now that I’ve been to the Finger Lakes, I’m  really dying to shoot a wedding there. I only picked up my Camera for a total of 15 minutes throughout the trip because I was enjoying the alone time with my AMAZING wife.

But now I’m on a mission to shoot a Finger Lakes wedding. The beauty of the place was deafening , and I have so many ideas of what to do up there it’s driving me crazy. If anyone out there is not happy with their wedding pictures from Seneca Lake. Or better yet just want to get dressed up in their wedding garb, drink wine and take pictures. Please let me have a crack at it.

Recommendations from the Seneca Lake Trip

My wife and I loved all  the Finger Lake wineries especially the ones with stunning views of Lake Seneca. But here are some of our favorites from the trip.

Hector Winery

I highly recommend Jenni at Hector Winery, she’s an amazing tour guide and will give you a great “to do” list for your time at Seneca Lake.

The best view goes to :

Atwater Estate Vineyards

The view of the lake is stunning from their large deck. Wines not bad either.

Magnus Ridge Winery

The winery with the best overall experience was Magnus Ridge winery. The wine was good, but the wine tasting experience was awesome. Each wine was served with an hand crafted Artisan cheese. They also had homemade olive oils and local balsamic vinegar to try.

Shalestone Winery

The best wine we tasted on Lake Seneca was at Shalestone. They ONLY make reds, which is right up our alley. And we talked about Harlem and NYC food trucks with their employees.

One place I would avoid like the Plaque on Seneca Lake is Catherine Valley Winery. They were pretty rude, and their wine was just average. But the view was pretty killer.

That’s my recommendations for the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. Next time I’m back to the Seneca Lake region I hope to be shooting a wedding there and not drinking as much wine.
